Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,
The Church Council executive met last night and decided, in the light of the rapidly escalating COVID-19 pandemic, and in accordance with advice from Synod, that to protect one another and to play our part in protecting the whole community, we need to suspend our worship services at Roseville Uniting Church.
This is a decision that we regret the need to take, but I would like to encourage us all to see it as an opportunity as well as a loss. A chance to explore new ways of looking out for one another, keeping in touch by phone, text, email or video chat, or meeting in smaller groups for mutual support and encouragement. Or perhaps to take this time in which so much less is happening as a Sabbath, a chance to rediscover times of sacred rest and contemplation, an opportunity for prayer or study.
Above all, let us remember that it is by our love for one another that we demonstrate that we belong to Jesus, not by our weekly gatherings. Let’s be creative in the ways that we show our love to friend and neighbour alike and use this time to grow in faith and service.
Although we will not be holding worship services, we do intend to open the Church at are usual worship times each Sunday. If you would like to come in to pray, or to share a cup of tea with a few others, you are very welcome. Alternatively, you might consider getting together with a small group to pray for one another and read the Bible together.
Of course, if you are feeling unwell, we would ask you to follow medical advice and stay home, but do let us know, so that we can keep you in our prayers and offer any practical support you need.
Over the coming days and weeks, we’ll be looking at different ways that we can continue to learn and grow and serve together; each day I hope to send out an email containing both some reflections on scripture, other thoughts on how we live as God’s people in these difficult times, and pointers to some of the excellent resources available online. These emails will go out to our newsletter mailing list, so if you don’t get the newsletter by email please let me know so I can add you to the list!
Finally – if you need any practical assistance in this time, there are plenty of members of the Roseville Uniting Church family who would be more than happy to help out – buying groceries, filling prescriptions, or any other such tasks, whether for you or for those you know. Get in touch and we’ll look after one another. You can call Chris on 0402 012 418, or email the ministry team at email@example.com.
“I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him, so that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance among the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power for us who believe, according to the working of his great power.” – Ephesians 1:17-19
