Some Possibilities for Lent
There are a lot of traditions around Lent – maybe you have something that works amazingly for you. Or maybe, like me, you always find yourself near Shrove Tuesday not knowing how to make use of this time of preparation.
Here are a few ideas if that’s where you find yourself!
For many years members of the Uniting Church have taken the opportunity of Lent to give up some luxury in order to help meet the basic needs of our sisters and brothers around the world. Lent Event raises funds for the work of UnitingWorld with our partner Churches. You can sign up online, or pick up a leaflet at the pancake party on Tuesday night!
Lectio 365 is a twice-daily devotional – readings, reflections and prayers for the morning and the evening, on your phone. Not specific to Lent, but perhaps something to try in this season and see if it works for you! I’m using it (ok, I admit, sporadically…). Available for iPhone and Android. There’s also a “Lectio for Families” if you want something to use together with kids aged (roughly) 7-11.
Port Phillip East Presbytery have an amazing collection of Lent resources on their website. Curated by Craig Mitchell, there are videos, devotions, music, craft, kids activities and more.
