The Virtual Choir

Join the virtual choir!

Welcome to the Virtual Choir for Heralding Advent! Hopefully everything you need to join in is on this page – if not, email Chris (chris.goringe@roseville.unitingchurch.org.au) and just ask!

You’ll need two devices to join our sing. One, with headphones (or earpods) attached, to play the backing track, and the other to record you singing. Probably easiest is to listen on a computer or ipad, and record on a phone.

If you have an iPhone you can record yourself using “Voice Memos” which is built in. If you are on an android, you might have “Voice Recorder” built in – if not, you can download the free app “Easy Voice Recorder”. Note that we’re only recording voice, not video!

Below you will find the three items that we are recording together. You can play the backing track (organ plus a few voices from Roseville UCA – thanks all!) directly from this webpage. Just start your phone recording, then press play (remember to wear headphones or earbuds, so that only your voice gets recorded) and sing along! Each piece has an organ introduction, and the lyrics are below the song.

When you’ve finished, just send the file to me (you can send it straight from the app on your phone) – by message to 0402 012 418, or by email to chris.goringe@roseville.unitingchurch.org.au. You don’t need to worry about any noises before or after the recording, I’ll edit them out. And please don’t think it’s not good enough – we value the joyful voices of enthusiasm!

Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus

Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus

VERSE 1

Come, thou long expected Jesus
born to set thy people free,
from our fears and sins release us,
let us find our rest in thee.

VERSE 2

Israel’s strength and consolation,
hope of all the earth thou art;
dear desire of every nation,
joy of every longing heart.

VERSE 3

Born thy people to deliver,
born a child and yet a king,
born to reign in us forever,
now thy gracious kingdom bring.

VERSE 4

By thine own eternal Spirit
rule in all out hearts alone;
by thine all-sufficient merit
raise us to thy glorious throne.

The King of Glory Comes

The King of Glory Comes

CHORUS

The King of glory comes,
the nation rejoices,
open the gates before him,
lift up your voices.

VERSE 1

Who is the King of glory,
how shall we call him?
He is Immanuel,
the promise of ages.

VERSE 2

In all of Galilee,
in city or village,
he goes among his people
curing their illness.

VERSE 3

Sing then of David’s son,
our saviour and brother;
in all of Galilee
was never another.

VERSE 4

He gave his life for us,
the pledge of salvation;
he took upon himself
the sins of the nation.

VERSE 5

He conquered sin and death;
he truly has risen,
and he will share with us
his heavenly vision.

FINAL CHORUS

The King of glory comes,
the nation rejoices,
open the gates before him,
lift up your voices.

The King of glory comes,
the nation rejoices.

O Come, O Come, Emmanuel

O Come, O Come, Emmanuel

VERSE 1

O come, O come, Emmanuel,
and ransom captive Israel,
that mourns in lonely exile here
until the Son of God appear.

CHORUS

Rejoice! rejoice!
Emmanuel shall come to you, O Israel

VERSE 2

O come, O come, great Lord of might
who to the tribes on Sinai’s height
in ancient times did give the law
in cloud and majesty and awe.

VERSE 3

O come, O key of David, come,
and open wide our heavenly home;
make safe the way that leads on high
and close the path to misery.

VERSE 4

O come, O branch of Jesse, free
your own from Satan’s tyranny;
from depths of hell your people save
and give them victory o’er the grave.

VERSE 5

O come, O dayspring, come and cheer
our spirits by your advent here;
disperse the gloomy clouds of night
and death’s dark shadows put to flight
